Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She's well-known as a public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit website that focuses on gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and is directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to dispel the myths that are associated with women in pop culture, she has also been working with issues that relate to the targeted harassment women and other classes of people online. Sarkeesian, who holds the degree of Master's in Political and Social thought from York University, is a sought after public speaker. She has spoken at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. From an early age she was intrigued by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to launch an internet program that would examine the gender roles in games but was the target of a harassment campaign online. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. It actually made her more committed as a feminist and media critic. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminist were recognized by a variety of prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit which studies the portrayals of women in pop cultural narratives.
